Nursing

Message from Shannon Nachtigal, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Baxter Regional Medical Center is a place where our nurses and staff call home; We are Family!  As the CNO, I believe in Servant Leadership.  The Nurse Directors and I support our nursing staff in a way that allows them to take excellent care of our patients.  We support shared governance and believe all nurses should have a voice in their clinical practice.  Our nurses take pride in the care they deliver and it shows by having excellent quality and service outcomes.  Our nurses are highly skilled in their specialties with many who have received additional degrees and certifications.  As your leader, I have a passion for nursing and love working with nurses who have the same passion.  We welcome nurses who love their profession and want to make a difference.  Come visit us and see for yourself.  You will fall in love with the Ozarks, lakes, rivers, and most of all, Baxter Regional.

Philosophy of Nursing

Nursing at Baxter Regional commits to promote the health and wellness of the individuals in the community we serve. To that end, nursing is on a Journey to Excellence and welcomes the challenge to improve nursing care and treatment, exceed the patient’s service expectations, and produce outstanding nursing clinical outcomes related to national benchmarks.  Nursing at Baxter Regional is built upon sound nursing theory and research. The Nursing Model depicts the integration of our nursing Theory of Caring and our commitment to practice.

Baxter Regional nursing leverages the primary care delivery system to ensure our practice is autonomous, collaborative, interprofessional, and relationship – based with our focus on Patient/Family Centered Care. All decisions, plans, and approaches solicit the voice of our key customer – the patient. When making changes, we take into account the preference and impact of care on the patient first, with the impact on staff and physicians as important partners. Through the lens of the patient’s well-being, safety, and choice we determine what, how, when, and why we do what we do.

Nursing at Baxter Regional strives to innovate and breakthrough barriers that prevent or compromise best practices. Nurses commit to team work, trust building and trustworthiness, and a forward thinking search for and discovery of yet unknown possibilities of best practice. Our greatest imperative is to serve.

Shared Governance

Baxter Regional is a Magnet Designated Facility.  Shared Governance continues to be an integral part of the designation by supporting and encouraging a dynamic partnership between nursing and leadership.  Collaboration promotes shared decision-making and accountability by empowering all healthcare workforce members to have an active voice in issues that affect one’s work.  Satisfied individuals take ownership of their decisions and work to improve patient outcomes.

Shared Governance consists of Unit-Based Councils (UBC) and Divisional Councils.  These councils meet monthly to discuss standardization and improvement of practice, development, safety, quality, and evidenced-based research.

Nursing Education and Professional Development

Baxter Regional Medical Center supports the nursing vision of providing its staff educational opportunities to enhance skills and foster ongoing professional development.  We strive to recruit, select, orient, and retain top quality nurses.  Here at Baxter Regional we identify and implement strategies that support excellence in customer service and clinical practice.  Baxter Regional hosts an annual nursing summit during which notable speakers discuss topics of interest such as best practice within the nursing profession.  We foster a workplace of participation and interprofessional collaboration.  Baxter Regional offers additional educational assistance in the form of scholarships to accredited programs.  We offer scholarship support for ADN, BSN and MSN programs.
